Black Knight premiered on Friday (12/5/2023) on Netflix. This drama is quite popular with Indonesians because of its exciting storyline and cast list.

Coming with 6 episodes, it turns out that there are many differences between the drama and the Black Knight (2023) webtoon. Find out more about the 11 differences between the drama and the webtoon below!

1. Fewer characters are present in the drama Black Knight than in the webtoon

Through a press conference, Director Cho Ui Seok explained that the characters adapted in the drama are fewer. The reason is due to episode limitations and also efficiency.

If you read the first 15 episodes in the Black Knight (2023) webtoon, some important characters do not appear. For example, couriers 5-6, Hong Du Shik, Mr. Kim, to Bae Dal Soo.

While there are also characters who only appear in the drama Black Knight (2023). The lineup of characters supports the storyline of the drama Black Knight (2023) more realistically.

2. The conflict of the drama Black Knight (2023) is more dense

In the drama Black Knight, 5-8 (Kim Woo Bin) and the old Black Knight create a just world. He must fight Ryu Seok (Song Seung Heon), the son of the owner of Cheonmyeong who apparently has his own agenda. Instead of creating a clean environment, Ryu Seok spreads harmful emission substances.

Unlike the conflict presented in the webtoon. The first conflict of the couriers must deal with the man in the red horn mask who is looking for his son. Meanwhile, other conflicts related to Cheonmyeong have not appeared until episode 15 ends.

Another difference comes from the name of the company where the taekbaegisa or couriers work. In the webtoon version, 5-8 work under Daehan’s delivery company.

While in the drama version, the company where 5-8 works under Cheonmyeong. Therefore, the selection of courier selection is carried out and can be manipulated by Cheonmyeong, including Ryu Seok.

4. Sa Wol’s character in the webtoon is female, while the drama is male

The most obvious difference comes from the character of Yoon Sa Wol (Kang Yoo Seok). In the drama version, Yoon Sa Wol is described as a tough boy.

While in the webtoon version, Yoon Sa Wol is actually described as a girl who is still in her teens. But she also phas pretty good fighting skills and also aspires to be a courier.

Yoon Sa Wol in the drama does not have different eyeball colors on her right and left. While Yoon Sa Wol in the webtoon has a different eye color. But most likely both are mutants because they are difficult to kill.

5. Jung Seol Ah’s character is only in the drama

Jung Seol Al (Esom) is the commander of the military forces, as well as the older brother of Jung Seul Ah (Roh Yoon Seo) in the drama. The two live together, after the death of both parents. In the drama, Jung Seol Ah adopted Yoon Sa Wol as her sister.

But, Jung Seol Ah’s character is actually only in the drama. Because in the webtoon version, Jung Seul Ah actually only has parents and a younger brother who has passed away.

6. Jung Seul Ah in the webtoon is not dead yet

In both the webtoon and the drama, there is a scene of confinement from the refugees in Jung Seul Ah’s house. In the drama version, Jung Seul Ah died from a barrage of gunfire from refugees. At that moment, Yoon Sa Wol was also injured by being shot.

While in the webtoon version, Jung Seul Ah’s back was hit by a sword, but she was still alive. Unfortunately, he disappeared because Yoon Sa Wol in the webtoon saw something that he should not know. Now, Yoon Sa Wol is trying to find the whereabouts of her brother Hong Du Shik.

7. In the drama, the one who saved Sa Wol was Seol Ah, not Seul Ah.

If you look at the drama, Jung Seol Ah saved Yoon Sa Wol while undergoing military operations. The operation requires him to kill every survivor they find. But Jung Seol Ah pretended to shoot Yoon Sa Wol and took her home instead.

While in the webtoon, it was Jung Seul Ah who found Sa Wol. At that time, Sa Wol was running from the pursuit of the people who killed her new family. When he woke up, he was already at Jung Seul Ah’s house.

8. The reason Seul Ah vs Seol Ah adopted Sa Wol

The reason Jung Seul Ah in the webtoon saves Sa Wol is because she looks like her brother. Her younger brother also has different eye colors on the right and left. Seul Ah tried to get Sa Wol to get a resident identity, even though it was illegal.

Meanwhile, in the drama version, Jung Seol Ah sympathizes with Yoon Sa Wol. Moreover, she has a younger sister who is the same age as Sa Wol, namely Seul Ah.

9. 5-8 in the webtoon have two younger siblings and a grandmother

In the drama version, 5-8 is depicted as living alone and only interacting with couriers and refugees. He is not depicted as having a family.

But in the webtoon version, 5-8 whose real name is Changmin lives with his family. He has two younger siblings and also a grandmother. In addition, 5-8 tries to secretly buy supplies to give to refugees.

10. Sa Wol’s friend in the webtoon is only one person, besides that she has a foster sister

Yoon Sa Wol in the drama has three friends who always support her. They are Nirguna (Lee Joo Seung), Dungu (Jeong Eun Seong), and Pandir (Lee Sang Jin). Unfortunately, Nirguna died saving Yoon Sa Wol.

Meanwhile, in the webtoon, Sa Wol only has one friend, Deobeok, who lives as a refugee. He also had a mother and adoptive sister who was killed by the police named Hyunteo.

Ryu Seok is the main antagonist in the drama Black Knight. He is the son of Chairman Ryu Jae Jin (Nam Kyung Eup), CEO of Cheonmyeong Group.

In the drama, Ryu Seok is described as sick and needs mutant blood to recover. Therefore, he tried to take over Cheonmyeong and kill refugees en masse, in order to narrow the people living in District A.

Meanwhile, in the webtoon, Ryu Seok’s character has not appeared until episode 15. It was only Chairman Ryu who created an oxygen capsule for masks. At that time, Air Core, an artificial oxygen machine did not yet exist.

Black Knight (2023) has many differences from the webtoon because the original author of Taekbaegisa (2016) gave Director Cho Ui Seok the freedom to adapt. Do you prefer the drama version or the webtoon?
