A KPop group is usually bound by a contract with their agency. After the contract ends, they are free to decide to continue the contract, switch agencies, or even choose to disband.
Switching agencies is one of the shortcuts that groups often choose. They then continue their careers with a new company. Some choose to keep the group name that made them famous. However, there are also those who decide to change the group name with a new one.

1. Highlight

In 2009, Highlight debuted under Cube Entertainment under the name BEAST. The group has six members consisting of Doojong, Yoseob, Gikwang, Dongwoon, Hyunseung, and Junhyung.
However, in 2016, BEAST decided to leave Cube Entertainment and set up their own agency called Around Us Entertainment. They also changed their name from BEAST to Highlight. The fandom name was also changed to Light. Now, Highlight promotes with four members after Jang Hyunseung and Junhyung have left.
2. ONEWE

ONEWE is a rock band that debuted in 2015 under the name M.A.S 0094 under Modern Music. The band has five members consisting of Yonghoon, Harin, Kanghyun, Dyongmyeong, and CyA.
In 2017, the group joined RBW Entertainment and changed their name to M.A.S. The following year, RBW decided to change MA.S.’s name to ONEWE.
With the new name, ONEWE debuted again in 2019. The band is still active today with a full complement of members.
3. ALICE

The girl group under Hunis Entertainment debuted in 2017 under the group name ELRIS with five members, namely Yeonje, DoA, Sohee, Yukyung, and Karin. Then, in 2020, they debuted EJ and Chaejeong as new members.
In 2021, ELRIS’s contract with its old agency was over. They then decided to join IOK Company and agreed to change their name to ALICE. With the name change, ALICE also changed all social media with the new name given by the agency.
4. SKYE

IN2IT is a graduate of the Mnet survival show that debuted in 2016 with eight members, namely Jiahn, Yeontae, Inho, Hyunuk, Isaac, Inpyo, Jinsub, and Sunghyun. But later, Jinsub and Sunghyun chose to leave, until finally IN2IT promoted with its six members.
After the contract with MMO Entertainment expired, the boy group chose to leave and promote independently. On March 16, 2023, through its official Twitter account, IN2T announced that they changed their name to SKYE. This name is a combination of Sky and Emotion.
5. BB Girls

Brave Girls was originally a second-generation girl group that debuted in 2011. The girl group consisting of Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna was previously declared disbanded after its contract with Brave Entertainment expired last February.
Then, on May 3, 2023, they signed a contract with Warner Music Korea and changed the group name to BB Girls. Now, they will return to promoting with all four members. They changed their name due to a copyright dispute with their previous agency.
